ANGLESEY BRANCH AQUEDUCT

This is a grade II listed structure carrying the Anglesey Branch of the Wyrley & Essington Canal. The canal was widened and made navigable in 1850. It goes over the South Staffordshire Railway which opened 1849. The aqueduct is dated 1856 and is made of cast iron with brick abutments. The waterway is in an iron trough carried on a central brick pier. An iron arch supports the towpath and is inscribed: "Lloyds Foster and Co., Engineers, Wednesbury 1856". The solid cast iron parapets have interlaced balustrade pattern in relief.
